Duct cleaning has never been shown to actually prevent health problems. Neither do studies conclusively demonstrate that particle (e.g., dust) levels in homes increase because of dirty air ducts. Poor preparation can involve failing to clear the area, not covering vents and registers, using an unsuitable vacuum, or not sealing up your ducts before starting the cleaning process. All of these inadequate steps can lead to dust and debris that can become airborne and cause a mess in your home.
